GARDOX®
HORIZONTAL JOINT SEALANT
Seals concrete horizontal joints against
water infiltration with a durable and flexible rubber-like seal.
SEALTIGHT GARDOX Horizontal Joint Sealant is a pourable, two-component,
cold-applied compound that forms a tough, durable, rubber-like seal in
horizontal concrete joints.
Description
SEALTIGHT GARDOX Horizontal Joint Sealant is a pourable,
two-component, cold-applied compound for sealing joints in concrete. Chemically
reactive polymers, plasticized with coal tar, cure to a durable, rubber-like
joint seal that offers a firm, smooth, non-tracking surface retaining
flexibility from -20ºF (-29ºC) to over +200ºF (93ºC). Effectively seals the
joint against water infiltration and rejects incompressibles.
GARDOX is resistant to jet fuels, most common solvents and chemicals. GARDOX
will accommodate a joint movement of ±25% when correct joint design techniques
are followed in regard to the accommodations of anticipated joint movement and
the proper joint width of twice the depth [1/2'' (12.7mm) minimum] ratios.
Uses
SEALTIGHT GARDOX Horizontal Joint Sealant is recommended for
sealing horizontal joints on highways, airport runways, bridges, plaza decks and
driveways. Interior uses include sealing joints in industrial floors, garage
floors, airplane hanger floor joints, etc.
Features and Benefits
| Formulated with chemically reactive urethane polymers
modified with coal tar which cure to form a durable rubber-like joint seal
| Provides a firm, smooth, nontracking surface in
summer...retains flexibility in winter
| Requires no caulking gun or special metering
equipment...blends by hand or with a slow-speed drill
| Resistant to jet fuels, most common chemicals and
solvents
| Mix and pour right from the container
| Easy and economical to use |

Application
JOINT SIZES: GARDOX Horizontal Joint
Sealant should be used in joints not less than 1/4" (6.35mm) wide. A 2:1
width-to-depth ratio should be maintained. However, in no case should joint
sealant depth be less than 1/4' or exceed 1/2". Proper joint design
practices and application techniques must be followed for successful
performance.
JOINT PREPARATION: Remove foreign substances, incompressibles and free water
from joint opening. For proper adhesion, joints must be clean and dry. Dust,
dirt and laitance should be removed prior to application. GARDOX adheres well to
unprimed concrete; however, the use of P/G Primer is recommended for optimum
adhesion.
To control sealant depth, insert SEALTIGHT KOOL-ROD Backer Rod in the joint
before sealing. For larger joints, where additional support is required, use a
non-asphaltic joint filler such as CERAMAR Flexible Foam Expansion Joint Filler.
For straight joint edges, mask off top surfaces with masking tape.
METHOD OF APPLICATION: Pour polymer component into larger base material
container. Blend in a 1:1 ratio. Mix entire unit. Blend thoroughly, either by
hand mixing with a wooden paddle or with a slow-speed drill and flatbladed
paddle.
NOTE: GARDOX has a work life of approximately 3 hours; less at temperatures
above 70ºF (21ºC). Next, pour GARDOX into joint with suitable pouring
container Clean tools with Xylene or Toluene and remove masking tape before the
sealant cures. GARDOX will self-level and cure to a rubber-like compound in 72
hours at air and surface temperatures above 70ºF (21ºC). Sealant will be
tack-free in 12 hours.
Coverage
7.47 gal./ft³ (1,000 L/m³). A 1/2" x 1/2" (12.7 x
12.7mm) joint will require 1.3 gallons/100 lineal feet (16 L/100m).
Limitations / Precautions
GARDOX components are pre-measured to exact quantities. Mix all
materials in container; do not mix partial units or dilute. Do not use GARDOX at
temperatures below 40ºF (4ºC) or in wet joints. If expected movement is
greater than +/- 25%, GARDOX should not be used in this application. Do not
apply GARDOX to galvanized surfaces. GARDOX may be used on steel and other
non-galvanized metals only when the surfaces are first cleaned to bright metal,
acid etched and P/G Primer is used.
GARDOX is not recommended for swimming pools, joints subjected to hydrostatic
pressure, joints in ice rinks or parking decks. GARDOX is not compatible with
asphaltic joint fillers or asphaltic concrete pavements.
Health Hazards
Avoid contact with skin or prolonged breathing of vapors. Refer to Material
Safety Data Sheet for complete Health and Safety Information.

Shelf Life
GARDOX should be stored in a cool
warehouse. Like many top-quality, two-component sealants, GARDOX has a limited
(maximum 6 months) shelf life and should be used as quickly as possible after
purchase.
NOTE: Do not open pail until ready to use as this significantly reduces shelf
life.
