MEL-PRIME™ S/B VOC

SOLVENT-BASE VOC PRIMER

Technical Description
SEALTIGHT MEL-PRIME Solvent-Base VOC Primer is a ready-to-use compound specifically formulated with polymers in a VOC-compliant 3.68 Ibs/gal. (439 g/L) solvent-base primer. It appears red to reddish-brown in the container. MEL-PRIME Solvent-Base VOC Primer is furnished in 1-gallon (3.79 liter) and 5-gallon (18.93 liter) pails.

MEL-PRIME Solvent-Base VOC Primer meets the maximum VOC content limits of 350 g/L for Primers and Undercoaters as required by the U.S. EPA Architectural Coatings Rule requirements.

Uses
Apply MEL-PRIME Solvent-Base VOC Primer to concrete to simultaneously prepare and dustproof new and old, vertical and horizontal surfaces in one easy, economical operation. Use MEL-PRIME on all concrete surfaces to receive applications of SEALTIGHT MEL-GARD, MEL-ROL, MEL-DEK, AIR-SHIELD and/or MELNAR Waterproofing Membranes.

Advantages and Benefits:

Surface Preparation
New concrete must be cured a minimum of 7 days. Light-weight structural concrete must dry for 14 days. Concrete surfaces must be clean, smooth, dry and structurally sound. For additional surface preparation requirements, see instructions for applying MEL-GARD, MEL-ROL, MEL-DEK, AIR-SHIELD and/or MELNAR Waterproofing Membranes.

Application
Apply MEL-PRIME in fair weather when the surface and air temperatures are 25ºF (-4ºC) and rising. Apply with a roller or brush at a coverage rate of 250 to 350 ft²/gal. (6.14 to 7.37m²/liter).

Prime only the area to be covered with the waterproofing membrane during the working day. Areas not covered with a membrane in 24 hours must be reprimed.

DRYING TIME: Allow to dry for one hour or until the primed surface feels tacky but does not pick up when touched. If the work area is very dusty, apply membrane as soon as possible after MEL-PRIME is dry.

NOTE: Metal surfaces must be primed. They must also be clean, dry and free of loose paint, rust or other contaminants.

CLEANUP: MEL-PRIME Solvent-Base VOC Primer may be cleaned with mineral spirits.

Limitations
Do not apply MEL-PRIME Solvent-Base VOC Primer when rain is imminent, on frozen or frost covered surfaces, when surface and air temperatures are below 25ºF (4ºC) or when the weather conditions are cold and damp. Avoid allowing MEL-PRIME VOC to puddle – this will lengthen drying time. Use "as is", do not dilute.

Precautions
This product is flammable (flash point 50ºF). Ignitition sources should be removed prior to product use. Avoid direct contact with the product. Direct contact may cause mild to moderate irritation of the eyes and skin. Product vapors may also cause transient central nervous system depression. As the exclusive remedy for breach of this Warranty, we will replace defective materials, provided, however, that the buyer examine the materials when received and promptly notify us in writing of any defect before the materials are used or incorporated into a structure. Three (3) months after W. R. MEADOWS, INC. has shipped the materials, all our Warranty and other duties with respect to the quality of the materials delivered shall conclusively be presumed to have been satisfied, all liability therefore terminates, and no action for breach of any such duties may thereafter be commenced. W. R. MEADOWS, INC. shall in no event be liable for consequential damages. Unless otherwise agreed to in writing, no warranty is made with respect to materials not manufactured by W. R. MEADOWS, INC. We cannot warranty or in any way guarantee any particular method of use or application of the performance of materials under any particular condition. Neither this Warranty nor our liability may be extended or amended by our salesmen, distributors or representatives, or by our distributor's representatives, or by any sales information or drawings.
