SEALTIGHT® DECK-O-SEAL®
TWO-PART POURABLE ELASTOMERIC JOINT SEALANT
Technical Description
SEALTIGHT DECK-O-SEAL Two-Part
Elastomeric Polysulfide-Based Joint Sealant is a premium grade, pourable,
self-leveling, non-staining sealant which cures at ambient temperature to a
firm, flexible, tear-resistant rubber. DECK-O-SEAL is highly resilient and has
excellent recovery characteristics after extended periods of compression or
elongation.
DECK-O-SEAL has outstanding resistance to weather-aging and won’t discolor. It
provides excellent adhesion to most surfaces without using messy primers.
Uses
DECK-O-SEAL is used for caulking and sealing all joints subject to
structural movement to provide a firm, flexible, weathertight seal. It is
excellent for general purpose caulking of joints and seams, weatherproofing, and
both interior and exterior expansion joint sealing. Use of DECK-O-SEAL is
recommended in areas where complete cure is necessary before pedestrian and
vehicular traffic is allowed.
For on-the-job use, DECK-O-SEAL is supplied in a patented, pre-measured,
two-component, convenient unitized package kit consisting of the base compound
and setting agent. The packaged kit eliminates mishandling and mismatching of
components.
Advantages and Benefits
| Highly resilient with excellent recovery
characteristics
| Provides permanent and uniform watertight seal
| Requires no messy primers
| Prevents uncontrolled cracking by allowing expansion
and contraction during temperature changes
| Stays flexible...won’t become brittle or crack due to
ultra-violet exposure
| Resists abrasion, weathering and moisture, elevated
temperatures, will not cause discoloration
| Not affected by today’s pool chemicals
| Retains joint soundness in service once its cured and
can be stretched or compressed up to 50% |

in specifying material due to differences which could result from variations in
testing methods.
Storage Life
One year minimum when stored in unopened containers under 80ºF (27ºC)
Colors
Standard colors include: Duro-White, Stone Gray and Desert Tan
(Black and redwood by special order).
Packaging
Patented, pre-measured, two-component unitized, easy-to-handle
package contains proper ratio of base to setting agent which must be maintained.
96 oz. (2,745.6 ml), base material can, stirring paddle and applicator are all
included.
Coverage
The approximate number of linear feet which can be sealed with a 96
ounce (2,745.6 ml) can varies depending upon the width and depth of the joint.
For example, the kit can seal approximately 231 lineal feet of 1/4"
(6.35mm) wide x 1/4" (6.35mm)deep joint. It can seal 14 linear feet of
joint 1" (25.4mm) wide x 1" (25.4mm) deep.
Precautions
All surfaces to be sealed must be completely clean and free of any
contamination such as curing compounds, waterproofing compounds, paints,
laitance, etc.
Application
SURFACE PREPARATION: All joint interfaces must be clean, dry and
free from all contaminants. This may require sawing, sandblasting or wire
brushing to expose a clean, structurally sound surface. Concrete should be
completely cured, free from all foreign materials and contamination from curing
agents. (Industry accepted standard for curing is 28 days.)
RECOMMENDED JOINT DIMENSIONS: Calculate joint dimensions to meet service
conditions. Proper joint designs require a minimum of 1/4" (6.35mm) and a
maximum of 1" (25.4mm). The width of the joint should be 4 times the
anticipated movement. Joint depth should not exceed 1" (25.4mm) and be
equal to the width of the joint.
JOINT FILLERS: Fillers treated with grease and/or bituminous materials are not
recommended. Use SEALTIGHT DECK-O-FOAM or CERA-ROD as joint backing materials to
separate DECK-O-SEAL from any asphalt impregnated expansion board to avoid
sealant discoloration, and to control sealant depth and provide proper shape.
STORE AND MIX: In a cool shaded place, when temperatures exceed 77ºF (25ºC).
Application life is 1 hour at 77ºF. Do not mix until ready to use. DECK-O-SEAL
joint sealant is supplied in two-component kits, containing the proper ratio of
base to setting agent, which must be maintained. Stir and pour setting agent
into base, mix slowly for a timed 10 minute period. Avoid trapping air in the
sealant. Make sure to scrape sides and bottom of container while mixing. De-rim
the container to facilitate proper mixing. Apply thoroughly mixed DECK-O-SEAL
with the applicator supplied, caulking gun, or from any suitable container.
DECK-O-SEAL will set firm and rubbery within 24 hours at 77ºF (25ºC). At lower
temperatures, curing time may take longer.
CLEANUP: Use Xylene or Toluene on all tools, equipment and job spills. Joints
may be taped to ensure neatness and minimize any cleaning requirements. Avoid
contact with skin. Wash skin with soap and water (not the solvents used for the
equipment) immediately if contact should occur.
MAINTENANCE: If DECK-O-SEAL is damaged, and the joint has not been contaminated,
it can be repaired by cutting out only that part and resealing it with
DECK-O-SEAL.
