POURTHANE®
SELF-LEVELING URETHANE JOINT SEALANT
Seals horizontal floor or deck joints in high traffic areas
Technical Description
SEALTIGHT POURTHANE Urethane Horizontal
Joint Sealant is a two-part, cold-applied, elastomeric joint sealant. POURTHANE
will cure to form a tough, resilient, durable joint seal with exceptional
adhesion, elasticity and abrasion resistance. It resists deterioration by
weather, contraction/expansion, traffic, water, oils and certain chemicals. In
addition, POURTHANE does not permanently deform from compression or indenture.
Puncturing from sharp objects such as high-heels is minimal. POURTHANE can be
poured directly into a prepared joint and will self-level. Practical service
temperature range is -20ºF to +180ºF (-29ºC to +82ºC).
Uses
SEALTIGHT POURTHANE is ideal for use in sealing horizontal joints
in concrete and tile floors, walks, decks and similar pedestrian and vehicular
high traffic areas. POURTHANE is designed for use in joints having a minimum
width of 1/4" (6.35mm). Performance of the sealants is dependent upon joint
design; joint width should be a minimum of four times the anticipated joint
movement between temperature extremes.
Features and Benefits
| Provides a premium-grade, self-leveling sealant ideally
suited for horizontal joints subject to high pedestrian or vehicular traffic
| Forms a tough, resilient, durable joint seal with
exceptional adhesion, elasticity and abrasion resistance
| Excellent resistance to weather deterioration as well
as contraction/expansion, traffic, water, oils and chemicals
| Delivers a practical service temperature range from
-20ºF to +180ºF (-29ºC to +82ºC)

Application
SEALANT DEPTH: For optimum sealant
performance, the joint sealant depth should be controlled to provide 1/4"
(6.3mm) minimum depths for joint widths up to 1/2" (12.7mm); for up to
1" (25.4mm) widths, the sealant depth should be 1/2 the joint width; for
joints over 1" (25.4mm) wide, the sealant depth should be maintained at
1/2" (12.7mm).
To control sealant depth SEALTIGHT KOOL-ROD backer rod, or a non-asphaltic joint
filler, such as SEALTIGHT CERAMAR®
is required. Joint filler will help support the sealant to bear pedestrian
traffic. In addition to giving support to the sealant, the joint filler should
be held in compression in the joint to prevent the pourable sealant from passing
through or leaking from the joint.
JOINT PREPARATION: Joint surfaces must be clean, dry and free of all
contaminants such as curing compounds, form release agents, coatings, oil,
grease or bitumens. All will interfere with the adhesion of the sealant. For new
concrete, remove laitance and loose material by wire brushing or abrading. Joint
surfaces exposed to form release agents or curing compounds should be
sandblasted. Dust and dirt should be blown out of the joint by compressed air.
For old concrete, all old joint sealing compounds must be removed. Joint
surfaces containing absorbed oils or bitumens must be cut back to clean, sound
surfaces. Metal surfaces must be clean of all rust or oxide coatings and wiped
clean with Xylene or Toluene.
PRIMING: All surfaces, to which the POURTHANE Sealant is to adhere, must be
primed with SEALTIGHT P/G Two-Part Primer. Thoroughly mix the two components of
the priming system and apply to the joint surfaces by brushing a thin continuous
coating on the joint faces. Primer should be applied 30-60 minutes before
sealant is installed and have a slight tacky surface at time of sealant
installation.
MIXING: The 2 components of POURTHANE must be thoroughly blended following the
mixing directions on the label. After combining the two components, use a flat
bladed paddle and slow speed drill (150 rpm) to mix the two components for 8-10
minutes, moving the mixing blade throughout the sealant. Scrape sides of pail
and bottom to insure the mixing of all material and remix with drill for
approximately 3 minutes.
After mixing the 2 components, POURTHANE will be pourable for two hours at 75ºF
(24ºC); application time will be decreased at higher temperatures and extended
at lower temperatures. Do not mix more material than can be used in 2 hours.
APPLICATION TECHNIQUE: After cleaning of the joint, priming and installation of
the back-up filler, POURTHANE may be poured into the joint using any suitable
pouring container in relation to the size of the joint. For appearance and ease
of application, exposed surfaces on each side of the joint may be taped; remove
tape before POURTHANE begins to thicken or cure. Avoid overfilling the joint.
CLEANUP: Equipment may be cleaned with Xylene or Toluene before the sealant
cures.

Specifications
Federal Specification A-A-1556A (formerly TT-S-00227 E) Type I
Class A
Corps of Engineers CRD-C 506, Type I Class A
ASTM C 920, Type M, Grade P, Class 25, Use T
Precautions
Do not apply to wet or damp surfaces or
at temperatures below 40ºF (4ºC). Concrete must be 14 days old. POURTHANE
components are pre-measured to exact quantities. Mix all materials in container,
do not mix partial units.
Since POURTHANE has a low viscosity for pourability and ease of application,
bottom of joint must be closed to hold sealant. Do not use in joints containing
bitumens or extruding type fillers. Do not use in vertical applications or
joints having a slope; also not intended to withstand hydrostatic pressure
without proper support. Read and follow application information, precautions and
Material Safety Data information.
Coverage
7.47 gals./ft³ (1,000 L/m³). A 1/2" x 1/2" joint will
require 1.3 gal./100 lineal feet (16 L/100m).
