NO. 03602-101

SEALTIGHT® PATCH-PRIME

EXPOSED STEEL PRIMER

Technical Description
SEALTIGHT PATCH-PRIME is a polymer modified, cementitious-based, two-component material consisting of a dry powder and a liquid component, packaged as a unit in a mixing container.

Uses
PATCH-PRIME provides rust-proofing protection for steel reinforcement (i.e. rebar, anchor bolts, bearing plates, etc.) and other steel building components exposed during preparation for concrete repairs, where a cementitious repair material will be applied - horizontal, vertical, or overhead.

PATCH-PRIME replaces smooth, non-absorbent, epoxy rustproofing coatings. It is suggested for use with all SEALTIGHT cementitious patching compounds.

Advantages and Benefits

bulletNon-toxic water-borne mixture
bulletExcellent adhesion to steel, concrete and repair mortars
bulletEasy to apply by brush
bulletEasy water cleanup after use
bulletAlkalinity similar to concrete
bulletIf applied to concrete surfaces adjacent to rebar, it will not act as a bond-breaker
bulletCoating is vapor permeable
bulletContains migrating corrosion inhibitor

Limitations
Do not apply to unclean, rusty steel. Do not apply when rain is imminent or when the temperature is expected to be below 40ºF (4ºC) within 24 hours. At temperatures above 90ºF (32ºC), the pot life and work life is severely limited.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Compressive Strength: 4500 psi (30 MPa)
Adhesion To Steel:  500 psi (3.4 MPa)
 Freeze/Thaw Resistance: ASTM C-666  0.0% loss
Resistance to Chloride Penetration:  420 - 520 Coulombs
AASHTO T277

Packaging
13 lb. (5.9 kg) multi-part kit

Coverage
Single coat: 24 ft.² (2.23m²) of surface area per unit. Recommended 2 coat application, 12 ft.² (1.11m²) per unit. One unit is sufficient for 100 ft. (30.5m) of #4 1/2" (12.7mm) rebar, 2 coats.

Storage
Keep from freezing. Should liquid component freeze, it becomes unusable and must be discarded. Keep lid on the liquid and on the mixing pail itself in storage, to keep powders dry.

Application
SURFACE PREPARATION: All steel surfaces to be primed should be sandblasted and or water blasted, to remove all rust, grease, etc.

MIXING: (Step 1) Remove the 2 bags of powders and the container of liquid from the mixing pail container. (Step 2) Pour the liquid component into the mixing pail and then add the bags of premixed dry component into the pail. Mix both parts together using a drill with a mixing paddle. Mix to a smooth, lump-free, brushable consistency. Allow the mixed material to sit for 3 to 5 minutes and the re-mix. Mix only the amount of material which can be applied within 45 minutes after mixing. Discard any mixed material not used within this time.

PRIMER APPLICATION: Apply the first coat to the cleaned steel, using a stiff brush, as soon as possible after the steel is cleaned. Let the first coat dry for approximately 10 to 15 minutes and then apply the second coat.

CURING: Allow the primer to stiffen for 1 to 2 hours before placing the repair material. The placement of the repair compound may follow the initial curing, or be delayed as necessary. It is important that the primer be kept clean during any delays.

CLEANUP: Clean all tools and equipment after use with soap and water. Cured material would need to be removed mechanically.

Precautions
Avoid direct contact with this product. Chemical resistant gloves and goggles are recommended. If contact occurs, wash affected areas with mild soap and water.
