HYDRASET®
CALCIUM-CHLORIDE CONCRETE SET ACCELERATOR
Speeds initial setting time... makes mix
easier to place...saves time and money.
SEALTIGHT HYDRASET Concrete Set Accelerator is a ready-to-use, liquid admixture
designed to speed initial setting time for concrete and mortar.
Technical Description
SEALTIGHT HYDRASET Calcium-Chloride Concrete Set Accelerator is a
ready-to-use, liquid admixture. It accelerates initial setting time 1 to 3 times
faster than normal mortar and concrete.
HYDRASET improves workability and strength while hastening the hydration of
cement. It makes the mix easier to place and speeds construction by shortening
the initial set and curing time. Time and labor are saved, because forms and
other protection can be removed earlier...and finishing can be started.
HYDRASET should not be limited to use during months when temperatures are in the
20º to 45ºF (-7º to +7ºC) range. Increased workability and earlier strength
are also obtained when temperatures are in the 50º to 65ºF (10º to 18ºC)
range, because any time the temperature drops below 70ºF (21ºC), there is a
reduction in the rate of cement hydration. During cold and hot weather
application, follow ACI 305 & 306 recommendations.
Uses
HYDRASET is recommended for use during cool and cold weather to
reduce the risk of frozen mortar and concrete mixes. However, HYDRASET can be
used any time the temperature drops below 70ºF (21ºC).
Features and Benefits
| HYDRASET accelerates initial set time 1 to 3 times
faster than normal concrete and mortar
| Aids in strength development
| Hastens hydration of cement
| Increases workability or density of concrete or mortar
mix in colder temperatures
| Speeds construction due to reduced setting and curing
time
| Allows earlier removal of concrete forms or other
protection
| Permits earlier finishing |

Application
HYDRASET is added directly to the mix
water. Reduce the amount of water by 5 to 7% to compensate for the liquid
addition. For masonry mortar, 2 quarts (1.89 liters) of HYDRASET for 1 bag of
cement should be used. For mortar cements which are 50% Portland Cement and 50%
lime, 1/2 the amount, or 1 quart (950 ml) of HYDRASET is required.
Packaging
5 gallon (18.93 liter) Pails
55 gallon (208.20 liter) Drums
For concrete, the following quantities are recommended:
Temperature Range
Above 70ºF (21ºC)
70º to 32ºF (21º to 0ºC)
32º to 25ºF (0º to -4ºC)
25º to 20ºF (-4º to -7ºC) |
Suggested Quantity of HYDRASET
1 pt. (.47 l) per bag of cement
1 qt. (.95 l) per bag of cement
1 to 1-1/2 qts (.94 to 1.42 l) per bag of cement
2 qts. (1.89 l) per bag of cement |

Precautions
HYDRASET affects only the Portland Cement
portion of the mix and is not an antifreeze for the water portion. HYDRASET has
no effect on straight lime mortars and should not be used with oxychloride
stuccos. Use HYDRASET directly from the factory-sealed container; do not dilute.
Harmful or fatal if swallowed. Product container provides complete application
information. Read and follow application information and precautions. Refer to
Material Safety Data Sheet for Complete Health and Safety Information.
